Qualifying standards have changed for the 2015 Western States Trail 100-mile run. Between Nov 11, 2013 and Nov 14, 2014, a runner must now complete either a 100K run in under 16 hours or finish a 100 mile run from a list of 63 qualifying races provided on www.wser.org. After the 2014 race, a 50 mile run will no longer qualify a runner to enter the lottery. As evidenced by activity in and around the American River Confluence, the Auburn State Recreation Area has become a magnate for distance runners. As further evidence, applicants for the race grew from 583 in 2000 to 2,295 in 2013.
