On June 15th, many of us lost a personal friend and tireless Western States Trail advocate – Bill Pieper. He will be forever remembered by means of the recently dedicated Pieper Junction and Bill Pieper Memorial Bench near the Chicken Hawk vet-check and staging area along The Trail. Bill mentored me during my 2nd effort to finish the Tevis, this time riding Bill’s “Rosie”. It was by far my most memorable year with horses. The local trails we so enjoy, whether by horse or foot, were preserved as much by Bill as by any other. Take a moment to read the Tevis Cup website Home Page dedication … and thank Bill, those before him and those after, for our cherished trails.
“No one, except for Wendell Robie, has had a greater influence on the WSTF than
Bill. He served as president for 10 years. He has been a tireless advocate of the Wes-
Tern States Trail and acted as our liaison with government agencies. He has mentored
Every Western States Trail Foundation president since his term.”
