For 31 years, Ned Tibbits has been a Wilderness Skills Instructor. He has had additional training as a USFS Wilderness Ranger, a Rural and Urban Paramedic, a Ski Patrolman and a Sheriff’s Department Search & Rescue member. And, he maintains several associated certifications.
In 1974, Ned completed a thru hike on the Pacific Crest Trail. According to Ned, this was the experience that defined his future. He and his wife Julie are directors and instructors of the non-profit wilderness school – Mountain Education(.org). He visited our area on January 5th and 6th to talk about the experiences that led to his passionate commitment to enable hikers to safely enjoy wild places.
Mountain Education offers Summer and Winter Mountain Skills Courses based in the Tahoe region. Classes range from single day clinics to 4-weeks. The safety skills you learn will translate to any sport you participate in with wilderness settings.
